Our Go-to-School/Go-to-College initiative, which is a mandated National Program of our beloved fraternity, focuses on providing an environment of hope and possibility for high school students in their pursuit of higher education. Each year we honor disadvantaged Akron-area students who have shown outstanding academic achievements during their high school years. After over Forty-Three years we have awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships and are currently sponsoring twenty-two (22) students at many different colleges and/or universities throughout the country.
To support this joyous event we are preparing a Souvenir Program Booklet and we would like to include an ad from you, your company, organization, or have your name printed in the booklet as a Patron. You may use the enclosed Souvenir Booklet Contracts for you intended support and the support of those you have relationships with. All ads and patronage are tax deductible. Completed and signed forms and contracts are very important to confirm agreement. Please note that the deadline for submission of all material is Friday, April 7, 2017.
Thanks for your support,
Bro Daryl Brown and committee
Jeff Ballou, the president of the National Press Club, was the speaker at the Akron Press Club on Wednesday, March 29. The event was co-sponsored by the men Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Eta Tau Lambda Chapter and the University of Akron’s Bliss Institute of Applied Politics.
Brother Ballou is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and news editor at Al Jazeera Media Network, he was elected in December and took office in January. He is the first African-American male to be president in the club’s 109-year-old history. Brother Ballou has been a National Press Club member since 1992. He previously was vice president and first was elected to the board of governors in 2012.
“Our profession is under attack,” Ballou said at the time of election. “The work, voice, safe harbor and fellowship of the National Press Club are needed now, more than ever. We are seeing some of the finest journalism of our time covering the biggest stories of our time. But faith in journalism is shaken in part by those pretending to be us and lying while doing it.”
Brother Ballou brought a message of discernment of the news that was directed to journalists, but was also meant for the public at large to seek the truth in the news and to read various news sources for verification.
Ms. Carla Davis, Akron Summit Public Library Marketing Director, Brother Jeff Ballou, Brother John Williams, Immediate Past President of Eta Tau Lambda Chapter.
